WHEN

Good morning, little one.
You’ve had pleasant dreams, it seems?

I’ve been up for a while with a cup of coffee to clear my head and,
You know – oh, Mary, don’t be silly – times without number,
I’ve seen you smile as you slumber, and fallen in love all over again.

How lovely it would be if I could see into your dreams,
And there’s nothing I wouldn’t do to make the sweetest ones come true.

And I wonder… What will my little boy grow up to be?
I know you’ll grow and leave my nest; and off you’ll fly in the blink of an eye.
That’s how it goes.

But let’s cut to the chase, while it’s still morning and you’re in my embrace,
For a new day is on its way with whole new challenges for you to face.

Here’s what I think…

If you become an astronaut, my, you’ll go far!
To a moon, or a planet, or even a star.
I look forward to hear of the final frontier,
Tales of alien worlds and stranger skies,
Over the table with burgers and fries.

And then one day when you’re light years from home,
And think of all you cherish, as you fly boldly through the inky void,
You might get on the comm:

‘’Houston, it’s Jacob, I have a problem:

I miss my Mom!’’

As captain on board your own rocket ship,
Do you think that, perhaps, you could fix me a trip?
Not the drowsy drive to our summer place.
LIFT OFF! I want a vacation in space!

All systems nominal, but… .

And then one day when you’re light years from home,
And think of all you cherish, as you fly boldly through the inky void,
You might get on the comm:
‘’Houston, it’s Jacob, I have a problem:
All systems nominal, but...  I miss my Mom!’’
