1. When is Grandparents' Day?

Grandparents' Day takes place on the second Sunday in September. Grandparents' Day originated in the United States in 1978. At the time, President Jimmy Carter signed a proclamation designating the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents' Day.

The creation of Grandparents Day is largely credited to the efforts of Marian McQuade, a dedicated activist and housewife from West Virginia. In the early 1970s, she campaigned for a day to honor grandparents, aiming to encourage families to spend quality time with their elderly parents.

In 1973, Senator Jennings Randolph of West Virginia introduced a resolution in the U.S. Senate to establish Grandparents Day as a national holiday. The resolution was approved, and President Carter later issued a proclamation making it official. The establishment of Grandparents Day was driven by the desire to acknowledge and celebrate the vital role grandparents play in families and to foster stronger intergenerational connections.

This day is an opportunity to express love, gratitude, and appreciation for the wisdom, guidance, and support that grandparents offer to their grandchildren and families.
